In Singapore, due to the limited and expensive land, most Singaporeans choose to cremate the deceased. There are many treatments for urn (ashes), some people choose to place the urn in their homes to worship, while others choose to spread the ashes in their favorite places, eg. sea. Most Singaporeans choose to place the urn in government-managed or privately-owned columbarium so that they can worship and cherish the memory of their relatives and friends who have passed away especially during Ching Ming Festival. The price of a publicly-provided columbarium managed by the government exceeds SGD500 which based on a first-come-first-served basis, an additional fee of SGD250 is required if want to change the niche. People with better financial capacity can also choose to place their ashes in private columbarium according to their own religion or preference. Privately owned columbarium is more expensive because of its good feng shui as well as facilities.
The columbarium is a building for storing the ashes of the deceased. It is consists of many halls and there are plenty of niches in each halls. The ashes are sealed in a urn and then placed in the niches. The front of the niche is made of transparent glass to allow the urn to be watched directly.
Nirvana Singapore has three main halls which are JuXianDian (Block A), Three Saints Hall (Block B) and JuFudian (Block C). Each hall has its own Feng Shui pattern and characteristics. Most of the halls are mainly designed for Buddhism and Taoism. There are 3 non-religious halls which is suitable for Free thinker, Christians and Catholics. Currently, Nirvana Singapore is expanding the structure of the building to add more columbarium halls. The expansion project of Block B is expected to be completed in 2023.
There are various types and sizes of niche available in Nirvana Singapore which is suitable for individuals, couples or families.
